Every year the FLexGrass team takes care of the hybrid pitch at San Siro

When the Scala del Calcio calls, FLexGrass answers. For six years now, we have been responsible for the replacement of the hybrid pitch at San Siro, one of the most iconic and recognisable stadiums in the world.

Given the countless fixtures played by Milan's two clubs, the pitch is subject to greater wear than other playing surfaces, and as a result, it is replaced at least twice a year.

Replacement process

1. The process begins with the removal of the old playing surface, carried out using specific machinery so as to strip the turf without damaging the underlying substrate.
2. As this is a hybrid pitch, the next step is separating the vegetal component from the synthetic one using a rotating drum screen, which divides the two materials.
3. Next comes the preparation of the substrate, which, once the turf has been removed, is amended with composts and fertilisers to best preserve the new pitch.
4. The final phase consists of laying the new pitch. Activities vary depending on the hybrid system chosen:

• "Carpet" hybrid system, such as our Horizon: installation is completed with the laying of the final sod.
• "Stitched" hybrid system, such as our Vertix: after laying the natural sods, the stitching of the surface begins using specific machinery.
